BP Report Published

Attention all Safety Geeks:

You may know that before James Baker III became involved with the Iraq Study Group, he was the chair of a panel to investigate the 2002 explosion at a BP refinery in Texas City, TX. The panel evaluated the corporate safety culture and process safety issues at BP.

The findings of the panel were probably not what the executives at BP had hoped to hear. The panel found there were significant shortcomings in the safety culture and specifically the management of process safety at BP. For anyone who is involved in process safety, or anyone who tries to manage safety, it is interesting reading. The report can be found at the link here.

Safety Day a Success

Thanks to all who helped to organize, presented topics, and most of all, to those who attended Safety Day on January 4. I've received a lot of positive comments. Special thanks to Chuck Betts and the SCC staff for hosting the festivities.

Some of the most gratifying comments came from people who were not "local". Dr. Wright from STIR at ISU was especially impressed with all the local support and participation. It feels good to know that this is a significant event in the promotion of occupational safety and health in our area, and even a little beyond our area.
